Once a year MRVC hosts a nationally-known needlework designer to teachone- or two- day classes in a variety of disciplines. Past instructors have taught stumpwork, blackwork, reticello, and silk and metal work.

July 9-11, 2011: Paisley Passion by Deborah Forney

This year our workshop is a special benefit for our members. We are bringing in a national teacher, and MRVC will be paying for all of the teacher’s expenses! Members will pay only for their kit. Debbie Forney is a graduate, with distinction, of the Royal School of Needlework at Hampton Court. She has taught at EGA guilds, shops, ANG National Seminar and Callaway School of Needlearts.

Preregister no later than April 1, 2011. A deposit of $50 will be due at the time of registration, and color se-lection must be noted at that time. Balance will be due at June meeting.

Let your passion show in this one-of-a-kind paisley purse embellished with beads, Dorset buttons, and Swarovski crystal beads on a foundation of appliquéd Ultrasuede, silk threads and metallic braids. Paisley Passion is avail-able in six color schemes, shown below. Students may copy the paisley patterns featured in the model or use them for inspiration. Let your imagination flow and create the paisley palette that best expresses your stitching passion.

Kit includes: Canvas with line drawing, beads, Ultrasuede for appliqué and purse finishing, Dorset button rings, Swarovski crystal beads, all threads necessary to complete one chosen color scheme, color copy and instruction booklet.

Color Scheme options: Blue/Purple, Rust/Orange, Purple/Red Violet, Red/Pink, Lime Green/Rust, Black & Metals. Check out the link listed above to see the different colorways.

Students to bring: 12" x 14" and 12" x 12" stretcher bars, tacks, needles, and normal stitching supplies. Stu-dents may also bring/buy at the shop coordinating threads and embellishments.

Students will learn to work with Ultrasuede on canvas, to create Dorset buttons using multiple patterns, to an-chor beads to canvas individually, stacked and in strings to create beaded motifs, paisley edgings and stacked trims on the purse band. Students will be encouraged to create their own interpretation of the model and addi-tional pattern usage will be permitted for those students who want to create a different use project othe
